Theres a crazy new(ish) FTDI chip According to the datasheet and marketing garbage it does just about everything, speaks every language and even contains a portable badger shaver. It would be really nice to get a few to see if they are actually as good as they claim. After a look around the usual suspects I couldn’t find it anywhere. This gave a good reason to try the talk to real live person of the farnell website. Unfortunately they seem only to exist in office hours – crazy really because everyone knows the most productive time for electronics development is near midnight. Hence it took the form of an email:
HI,
Do you have any plans to stock the FT2232H?
Many thanks.
Tom
The Reply came:
Tom,
FTDI is one of our suppliers, but nothing comes up with regard to having
any of them at the moment. We may do in the future – we do most of what
they produce – you’ll just have to keep your eye on our new products

Not exactly the most useful of replies one could have – in fact totally useless, did he get this from looking at their website also? Because I had already surmised the same thing.
But what was of note is the footer on the email showed it had come from a real person and it had is Amateur radio callsign!! in fact two of them so maybe this guy has actually seen some electronics in his life, he may know something after all!
Also it turns out digikey sell them….
